Community Supported Agriculture [CSA]

With the dominance of large agribusinesses in North America, it's now more important than ever before to know where our food comes from. More and more people are realizing the value of becoming connected again with local food sources - the positive impact on our local economy, family farms, and the invaluable environmental benefits.

Community Supported Agriculture - or CSA - is an alternative way of purchasing healthy produce and supporting your local farmers. CSA members pay for a share of the harvest at the beginning of the growing season, and then pick up their very own box of delicious, organic, and local produce once a week. Paying for a share of a farm's harvest in advance helps farmers plan and budget for the year while minimizing the risks that are normally involved in farming. In exchange, CSA members receive a weekly supply of fresh and nutritious produce and the satisfaction of knowing where their food comes from!

Sign up for a share of healthy, certified organic produce. Being a part of our CSA program is a great opportunity to support your local farmer by purchasing produce for a whole season. We know that you care about where your food comes from, seasonal eating, and sustainability. Joining a CSA program is the perfect way to learn about the vital connections between food, health, local communities and the environment!

CSA FAQ.

  • Why do we offer two options (17 weeks & 22 weeks) for our shares?

    1) Produce availability reasons. We want to make sure we have enough diversity of produce for all of our CSA shares. Depending on the weather we've experienced, starting everyone in June could put us at a risk of us not filling our Summer CSA shares in the way we like to.

    2) Financial reasons. Selecting a 17-week share allows us to offer more share accessibility.

    3) Logistic reasons. June can be an awkward time for many families to begin something new. School is still in, spring is just coming to an end, and so on. Allowing a July start time allows both us and our customers to get our ducks in a row before the routine of summer sets in.

  • What payment methods do you take for CSA?

All CSA sign ups are available on our online store www.shopklippers.ca. Here, you are able to pay by credit card (via PayPal) or e-transfer. Paying with cash is also an option. If you would like to pay with cash, please contact us. Please note that to avoid charges & fees, we prefer payment in e-transfer or cash.

  • When is the sign up/payment deadline?

We plan to have all CSA shares signed up & paid for by May 1st. If you have questions about this date, please contact us.

  • Can I sign up late?

We do offer prorated sign ups for customers for various reasons. To inquire, please contact us.

  • What if I am going on vacation?

We try to be as accommodating as possible when it comes to vacation holds. If your vacation is for just a week or two, we are happy to provide double shares before you go/when you're back to make up for your missed weeks. If you will be away for a larger chunk of time, please contact us.

  • Can I share my share with a friend?

Absolutely! If one share is too much for you in terms of produce/budget, we do recommend going half-in with a friend. For this, we ask that you coordinate this yourselves. If you would both like to be on our CSA email list, however, we ask that you include your friend's email address in your order notes when you sign up.

  • Do you accommodate to dietary preferences/allergies?

Our small team does prefer to keep the packing of all CSA shares consistent. If you have an allergy or dietary restriction, please contact us and we will let you know if we can accommodate your needs. Thank you for understanding.

Summer CSA

May - October

Weekly large share:

Large shares are typically better suited for families or households with more than two adults. Typically, a large share contains about double what a small share contains. Large shares also allow for more variety in the summer (which typically means more diversity in the fruit you might receive!).

Weekly small share:

Typically, a small share is fit for two veggie-eating adults and contains 6-10 items (enough to fill a regular sized grocery tote).

Winter CSA

November - April

Bi-weekly winter share [one size]:

Winter CSA shares typically contain more roots & vegetables. In your bi-weekly share, you can expect to receive farm fresh winter harvest items such as beets, carrots, onions, garlic, apples, potatoes, squash. Depending on how you cook, this CSA could suit an individual or a small family.

CSA Giveaway Program

"Farmers Supporting Families"

We are excited to announce that we are now accepting nominations and sponsorships for our 2023 CSA Giveaway Program, now called "Farmers Supporting Families." This program is an extension of our Community Supported Agriculture program and aims to provide CSA shares at no-cost to families and individuals in need.

Who Does This Program Support?

Our decision to focus on single-parent families stems from Annamarie's personal experience as a single mother to her first two children, Azalya and Brayden. With community wellbeing at the forefront of our minds, however, we are expanding our initiative from last year to now consider a wider variety low-income households and individuals in 2023. Communities we are currently supporting include Keremeos/Cawston, Summerland, and Vancouver.

2022 Recap:

Last year's program was a great success! Thanks to the support of our local community, we were able to raise enough funds to provide food for a total of thirteen single-parent families and a local soup kitchen from June to October 2022.

How Can I Get Involved?

If you know of a family or individual who could benefit from this program, please email us at klippersorg@gmail.com with a brief write-up outlining their need.

To sponsor or donate to our program, please visit the Community Supported Agriculture section of our online store at www.shopklippers.ca.

*All nomination will be kept confidential

**Sponsorships/donations can be made for as little as $25. All sponsorship/donations have the option of being kept confidential as well.

Thank you for your support in making our second year of Farmers Supporting Families a success. Let's work together to enhance food security in our community.

We'll start off by saying that as grocery prices continue to increase, our CSA rates have remained unchanged. We understand that many households are feeling financial strain, and the last thing we want to do is contribute to this. Taking part in Community Supported Agriculture allows individuals and families to buy directly from local farmers, providing a variety of fresh, seasonal produce that is healthier for you, the planet, and your budget - which is particularly important right now. Furthermore, we'd like to highlight that although our CSA rates are based on $30/week (small) and $50/week (large), we always provide more than this.
